Optimizing the Placement of the Wealth Deity in Your Store

Commonly, there are two types of wealth gods that we often worship: the gods of wealth and fortune consist of the Wealth Star Lord and the Three Stars of Blessing, Prosperity, and Longevity.

(1) Wealth Star Lord: He appears quite affluent, depicted as an elder with a fair complexion and long beard, adorned in brocade robes with a jade belt tied around his waist. In his left hand, he holds a golden ingot, while in his right hand, he carries a scroll inscribed with “Attract Wealth and Treasure.” He resembles a wealthy patriarch. According to legend, he is the Tai Bai star in the heavens, belonging to the domain of metal, with the celestial title of “Heavenly Wealth and Prosperity Star Lord,” tasked with overseeing the wealth and treasures of the world. Hence, many who seek wealth hold him in high esteem, some even offer incense day and night in reverence.

(2) Three Stars of Blessing, Prosperity, and Longevity: The “Star of Blessing” cradles a child, symbolizing the blessing of having all wishes fulfilled with offspring. The “Star of Prosperity” is attired in splendid court robes, holding a jade ruyi scepter, symbolizing promotion, wealth, and abundance. The “Star of Longevity” holds a peach of longevity, with a happy and serene expression, symbolizing health, happiness, and longevity. Originally, only the “Star of Prosperity” was considered the wealth god among the three stars. However, because the three stars are usually seen as a trinity, the blessings of fortune and longevity are also revered as wealth gods. If the three stars of blessing, prosperity, and longevity are placed in the position of wealth, their auspicious influence brings great joy and prosperity to the household. Setting aside the principles of feng shui, the mere sight and thought of them bring comfort and contentment.

Those in clerical or employed positions are apt to place or venerate the God of Literature, while those engaged in commerce or military occupations should venerate the God of War.

2. God of War: There are two gods of war, one being Zhao Gongming with a black face and mouth, and the other being Guan Gong with a red face and long beard.

(1) Zhao Gongming: Also known as Zhao Xuan, he is a formidable general. Zhao Gongming, the God of War, is reputed in folklore for his ability to vanquish evil spirits and attract wealth, hence many northern merchants prefer to venerate him in their shops; whereas in the south, merchants mostly venerate Guan Gong.

(2) Guan Gong: Originally named Guan Yu, styled Yun Chang, he was a renowned general in the Three Kingdoms period. With a majestic presence, he is not only renowned for his loyalty and bravery but also for his ability to attract wealth and ward off evil spirits. It is crucial to note that the orientation for veneration of the God of Literature differs from that of the God of War and must be distinguished! The serene God of Literature, whether it be the God of Wealth or the Three Star Deities of Fortune, Prosperity, and Longevity, should face inward toward one’s own dwelling, not outward. Otherwise, wealth may be inadvertently sent outwards! As for the majestic God of War, he should face outward or towards the main entrance. This orientation not only attracts wealth into the dwelling but also guards the entrance, preventing malign influences from intruding.

There are several points to be mindful of; otherwise, “placing them is as good as not placing them at all.” Please pay attention to the following:

1. The material of the wealth deity: There are various materials available nowadays, such as ceramic, gold-plated, jade, pure copper, etc. Which one is better? Dong Yilin, the esteemed teacher, has discerned the efficacy of raw pure copper. Raw pure copper, untouched by extensive processing upon excavation, preserves the earth and spiritual energy inherent in the copper itself.

2. Without consecration, it is akin to a mere craft: To ensure efficacy, it is imperative to imbue spiritual energy through formal consecration.

3. Addition of Taoist potent wealth charms and incantations: Taoist charms possess extraordinary efficacy, having been transmitted for millennia, and can be applied.

4. Placement of the God of Wealth figurine: Through examination, Teacher Dong Yilin has found that the “God of Wealth Star Lord” is more popular than the “Three Stars of Blessings, Prosperity, and Longevity.” Therefore, he has crafted the God of Wealth figurine from raw pure copper.

5. Attention to the God of Wealth figurine:

(1) The censer and everlasting lamp must be made of copper, as the God of Wealth Star Lord is a celestial being in legends.

(2) Offerings should consist mainly of pastries and sweets, as it is said that he enjoys sweet treats.

(3) Include more small ornaments.

(4) Most importantly, it must be placed inside the house facing the entrance of the master bedroom, never towards the main door, ensuring wealth enters the home and safety is maintained.

6. Placement of the God of War figurine: Due to the dual manifestations of the God of War, depending on the cultural customs in the north and south, generally, in the south, there is a preference for offering homage to Guan Gong, while in the north, Zhao Gongming is more commonly revered.

7. Attention to the God of War figurine:

(1) The censer and everlasting lamp must be made of ceramic clay, as both are historical figures from the earthly realm.

(2) Offerings may include flowers and fruits, with the option of meat products during festivals.
