Instead, inviting the hermit to cast divinations and consult the yarrow stalks.” In the Ming dynasty, Wang Shouren, in his “Chuan Xi Lu,” states, “It is only because future generations focus on observing divination that it appears as if fortune-telling is a minor art.” Zhao Jinjiu, in “Village Tavern,” describes the scene: “Setting up tents, displaying stalls, engaging in buying and selling, playing instruments and singing, and practicing fortune-telling and divination.”
Requirement: With sincerity, radiance and constancy lead to auspiciousness. Beneficial to cross a great river.
Translation: The Requirement hexagram symbolizes the act of waiting, adhering to the path of integrity, leading to a bright and prosperous future.
The commentary says: Above the clouds in the sky, there is Requirement.

Gentlemen indulge in conviviality.
Translation: The ethereal mists ascend to the heavens, symbolizing anticipation, wherein gentlemen partake in conviviality.
In the beginning, waiting in the outskirts brings constancy, without fault.
Translation: Waiting in the outskirts fosters constancy, ensuring there is no fault.
In the second place, waiting on the sands, slight murmurs, ultimately auspicious.
Translation: Waiting on the sands, encountering minor murmurs, leads to ultimate auspiciousness.
In the third place, waiting in the mud, attracting marauders. Waiting in the mire may attract marauders. “Marauders” symbolize peril, and Hexagram 9 approaches the water, teetering on the brink of danger. Yet it has not plunged directly into the water, thus calamity and risk still lurk outside. If one brings trouble upon oneself, it is self-inflicted.
Hexagram 6, amidst blood, seeks escape from the abyss.
Amidst feasting and revelry, Hexagram 9 awaits, auspiciously upholding the path of righteousness.
As for line 6, it descends into the abyss. Three unexpected guests arrive, and by honoring them, prosperity is ensured.
The counsel of Hexagram 9: Outside of danger, do not recklessly advance; within danger, maintain composure and await assistance. The fundamental attitude in peril is one of composure, awaiting aid.
